Uppsala Biobank
A local infrastructure with state-of-the-art biobanking services. UBB is a role model for other Swedish biobanks. Includes whole blood, buffy coat, plasma, serum, saliva, DNA, RNA, mRNA, cancer biopsy, skin biopsy, muscle biopsy, fat biopsy, faeces, hair, spinal fluid, cells, umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, nasal lavage, tissue material including cancer and amniotic fluid samples. An example of sample collections is the Nordic Childhood Leukemia Biobank.

A national infrastructure where healthcare, academia, industry and patient organisations collaborate.

Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI-ERIC)
A European biobank infrastructure that offers quality management services, and support with ethical, legal and societal issues, online tools and software solutions. Biobank Sweden is the national node.
Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital have a strong track record in state-of-the-art biobank infrastructure services. Uppsala Biobank is the joint biobank for Region Uppsala and Uppsala University and is responsible for all biobank samples and sample collections within their operations, including legal advice.
Currently, different types of biological samples from 213 projects are stored in the Uppsala Biobank with up to several hundred thousand samples per project. The total number of sample freezers (currently 150) is constantly growing and situated in a storage space of 880 m2.
Biobank Sweden, headed by Uppsala University, is a national infrastructure for biobanking where healthcare, academia, industry and patient organisations collaborate to attain good healthcare and research. Biobank Sweden has the support of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions and has a close collaboration, and a joint steering group, with Genomic Medicine Sweden (GMS).
