Children's rights discussed at biomedicine conference
23 September 2022
Recently, the Department of Law at Uppsala University arranged a conference on children's rights in the biomedical field, "Children's Rights in Biomedicine Conference".
Researchers, policymakers and stakeholders came together to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field and to discuss whether current national and international legal frameworks effectively protect children from scientific risks and uncertainties in the biomedical field.
- The conference has focused on children's status as rights bearers in the encounter with health care, especially in biomedical examinations and interventions," says Jameson Garland, senior lecturer in medical law at the Department of Law. Full respect for all children's rights is essential to ensure a high level of protection of children's health and to ensure that the highest possible health standards are met, he said.
Santa Slokenberga, Senior Lecturer in Administrative law at the Department of Law, says this is an important and crucial milestone in the search for the most effective ways to protect children's rights and interests in biomedicine.
