AMResilience: Building resilience to a global sustainability challenge across scales - Dr. Peter Søgaard Jørgensen.
Antimicrobial resistance can be characterized as a chronic global environmental sustainability challenge, where antibiotic use plays a similar role to greenhouse gas generating activities and the global microbiome substitutes climate as the main object in need of stewardship. Recasting AMR as an environmental sustainability challenge, highlights that building human capacities to act as stewards of the global microbiome, is a primary objective to addressing AMR and that AMR is a social-ecological problem. In this talk I will highlight examples of my research on building social-ecological resilience to AMR across scales. From identifying global policy priorities, to regional context-dependent implementation of these, to the factors determining resilience of communities implementing on-the ground interventions to tackle various aspects of AMR.
About the speaker: Peter Søgaard Jørgensen is an evolutionary biologist and ecologist turned sustainability scientist. He leads the global health and biosphere steward group at GEDB at the Royal Swedish Academy of Science and the research theme on Anthropocene dynamics at Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University. He is affiliated with the UGHRIS research group at Uppsala University
